7 Reasons To Start Dry Body Brushing Today

7 Reasons To Start Dry Body Brushing Today

As spring approaches and with it the days of wearing T-shirts and shorts rather than clunky coats, it may be a good idea to prepare our bodies and add them to the  ‘spring clean’ list. This is why I decided to pick up my dry body brush from the back of the cupboard. Originating in India, dry body brushing has been around for over 5000 years and even though you may not have heard of it, it has definitely stood the test of time.

Dry body brushing has numerous benefits including:

  • Reduction in cellulite: For many people this is the greatest appeal to dry brushing as it's claimed by many users to improve their cellulite. The brushing motion helps to soften hard fat areas and spread out fat evenly resulting in an improved appearance and smoother skin.
  • Improving circulation: The action of brushing your body encourages blood flow around your body.
  • Lymphatic support: This is part of your body’s immune system made up of tissues and organs which work together to help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted matter. Dry body brushing helps to stimulate the lymph vessels that are just below your skin therefore helping your body to detoxify.
  • Removing dead skin: The action of brushing your skin exfoliates your skin surface as the bristles remove the dry skin particles from your body enhancing skin appearance and promoting skin renewal.
    • Clearing clogged pores: Because dry brushing removes dead skin from your body this prevents it from clogging up your pores and also helps to prevent ingrown hair, which leaves skin smother and brighter.
    • Supporting your nervous system: Dry brushing can help stimulate nerve ends, resulting in a rejuvenated nervous system.
    • Stress relief: The monotonous calming motions of dry brushing make it a soothing beauty ritual which leaves you feeling very relaxed.

    How to dry body brush?

Dry body brushing is a simple and easy thing to add on to your morning routine or before you wash. Here is a simple how-to guide.

Start at your feet and work your way up your legs. Use long upward strokes and repeat several times. Then move onto your arms and upper body. Once every part of your body has been brushed several times, hop in the shower or bath. It is important to brush your skin before you wash in order to rinse any dead skin cells that may have lingered on your skin's surface. After your shower or bath we suggest to moisturise well using a natural product, such as one of our body oils which will nourish and moisturise the freshly exfoliated skin leaving it even softer and healthier.

Why not start dry body brushing today! Here is a link to where you can get your very own dry body brush - this one comes with cactus bristles and is thus suitable for vegans. Alternatively you will find these brushes in local chemists. Begin your journey to healthier, smoother looking skin!
